In this reassessment year of 2021, I wish to inform you of the recent changes that have occurred in our county, and of my office’s intention regarding the assessment.
The reassessment process dictates that we place a Jan. 1, 2021 value on real property. The real estate market, as it has in the recent past, continues to trend upwards with average home sale prices rising, some dramatically. Additionally, as during the previous assessment period, Platte County remains one of the fastest growing counties in the Kansas City metro area. My office’s research and market studies indicate that many areas of the county have experienced value increases of at least 10% or more.
In addition to evaluating sales data for the reassessment, my office will also be physically inspecting thousands of residential properties within the county. Due to the recent passage of Missouri Senate Bill 676, proposed by your elected senator Tony Luetkemeyer, for any residential property that may be increased over 15% of the previous year’s assessed value, my office is now required to conduct a physical inspection of the property. These inspections will be occurring over the coming months. If this affects your property, you will receive a letter from my office.
As in the past, my office will treat all taxpayers equitably and fairly while complying with the law.
