30 Years Ago–December 14, 1990

The Platte City Board of Aldermen Tuesday night voted to dismantle the old city water plant, which hasn’t been used since Platte City hooked up to the Kansas City water system. According to the agreement with Kansas City, the water plant had to be cut off from the Platte City water system when Platte City started receiving water from Kansas City.


Howard Alexander, 83, Platte City, former manager of the Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative, died Dec. 4, 1990 in the Platte City Caring Center. Alexander helped organize the electric cooperative in 1938, and served as general manager of the business until he suffered a stroke in 1986.


A Christmas concert will be presented this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Platte County R-3 High School gym in Platte City The concert will feature the R-3 band under the direction of Wendell Doyle and the Concert Choir and Mixed Chorus under the direction of Mark Cutler.


A wild four-overtime affair ended with North Platte ahead of the Platte County Pirates 69-68 in the third place game of the KCI Conference boys basketball tournament at Smithville on Friday.


A Platte County man and his young son were injured last Wednesday when his car stalled on railroad tracks at Route FF near I-435. Clifford H. Lyman III of Riverside was listed in serious condition at North Kansas City Hospital. His 23-month-old son Clifford H. Lyman IV was released from Children’s Mercy Hospital.
