Parkville Board of Aldermen Tuesday night approved hiring Oppenheimer & Co, Inc. to serve as the city’s financial advisor for its lease purchase of the new city hall to be located in Parkville Commons. The agreement proposes to save The City of Parkville an estimated $679,000 in interest over the course of the 20-year agreement. Former Platte County commissioner Michael Short attended the meeting as Oppenheimer’s representative. He is a vice president with the company.
Platte County’s public works department is undergoing a major renovation of sorts, according to Greg Sager, public works director. The decision to reorganize the department came with the hiring of Sager, after it was determined by the county commission that the department was not running as efficiently as it could be. “We’re cleaning up this public works department,” said Sager. “This will turn this department upside down. I want to make this a more user friendly, efficient and effective department. A kind of department you would expect in a first class county.”
Seven years ago, the Platte County R-3 School District left the KCI Conference and became the newest member of the Midland Empire Conference (MEC). Now district officials are starting very preliminary discussions about the possibility of leaving the MEC. Dr. Mark Harpst, R-3 superintendent, said any change would not happen for at least three years.
