The body of Francis M. Bell, 72, Platte County Assessor, was recovered Friday afternoon, May 23, 1975, on a private lake at his home after several hours searching. He was apparently in a boating accident. Bell was well-known throughout Platte County and had served as county assessor since January 1957. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Daisy Bell and a son, James Francis Bell, both of the home.
The Platte City Mid-Continent Public Library, now open at 311 Main Street, has more than books to offer. The library carries cassettes, records, 8mm films, and over 1,234 16mm films are available on request. The library will have a StoryTime starting June 4 for ages 4-5. Stories, finger-plays, and songs will be presented from 10:30-11 a.m. every Wednesday morning.
Ray Self, district manager for United Telephone Company of Missouri, has announced plans to convert pay telephones at Platte City from prepay to semi-postpay operation. With the prepay arrangement, money is deposited before dialing the desired number; money is deposited as soon as the party answers with the semi-postpay arrangement. These new paystations are less susceptible to vandalism. At the present, the changeover is schedule for Friday, June 6.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Brown will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary June 1, 1975. Their nieces, Loneta Schmollinger and Denise Wilson, will hold an open house June 1, 1975, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ferrelview Christian Church basement.
