Voters in the Platte County R-3 School District and in Platte City will go to the polls on Tuesday, April 3 to decide important issues and candidates. R-3 voters will decide on a $4.75 million bond issue. This will include $3 million for building a new middle school between the present high school and middle school in Platte City; $1.25 million for a new elementary addition to the present Barry Middle School; and $500,000 to renovate and upgrade existing R-3 school buildings.


Retiring Platte County Presiding Commissioner Ralph Wittmeyer has formally endorsed Steve Folck, candidate for presiding commissioner. Folck, who has been a lifelong resident of Platte County, says he has chosen to file for office because he believes Platte County has a unique opportunity in this decade to become the premier county in the Greater Kansas City area.


Visitors to the Weston Bend State Park will soon be able to enjoy a new bicycle and hiking trail at the park. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $507,000 contract to Suburban Contractors of Kansas City to perform the work in the park located near the town of Weston.


The West Platte R-2 School Board last week raised the salary schedule for teachers to make the base starting salary $17,500 for 1990-91. Extracurricular pay went up by five percent.
