A local dental surgeon has been accused of failing to exercise caution while performing an oral procedure.
A couple years back, Kegan Ross of Merriam, Kan., was examined by Dr. Steve Blum who told his patient it was likely the necessary time to extract one or more teeth. Dr. Blum referred his patient to Patrick Moore, an oral surgeon with the Tiffany Springs Dental Group and Orthodontics, located at 9018 N. Skyview Ave in Kansas City.
According to court documents, on Feb. 3, 2017, Ross met with the oral surgeon and underwent an oral procedure that same day to remove three teeth as recommended by Dr. Moore.
According to the lawsuit, Ross suffered “tremendous pain and a complete loss of feeling in the lower left side of his mouth, lips, gums, teeth and chin.”
Ross allegedly continued to experience these problems over an extended period. On multiple follow-up appointments, Ross informed the dental group of his condition, stating his pain and discomfort did not go away.
The oral surgeon allegedly told Ross his symptoms would diminish over time. The suit contends that simply didn’t happen. Ross alleges the oral surgeon caused severe damage and potentially damaged a nerve while extracting his teeth. The lawsuit argues the oral surgeon failed to warn the patient of the posed risks and failed to exercise the fundamental principles of dentistry.
Ross argues his quality of life has been “severely lessened and compromised” due to the oral surgeon’s alleged carelessness and negligence.
The lawsuit could help get Ross the recourse he is seeking, which rises upwards of $25,000 in damages. Court documents indicate Ross is representing himself in the legal action.
