Black out

The Chiefs weren’t the only folks blacked out in recent days. Much of Platte City was without power for a good part of the day Monday. The driver of a dump truck mistakenly left the bed of his truck in the air while exiting the area near Quik Trip along Prairie View Road and you see the result–a snapped utility pole and downed power lines. Power to the north side of town was restored after about an hour, but nearly everything south of the Platte County High School was without juice for several hours after the 11:50 a.m. accident.

Clara Miller of KCP&L said about 3400 customers were affected by the accident. James P. Broman, 38, of Lansing, Kan., was driving the truck for Pavlich, Inc., a trucking company out of Kansas City, Kan. Broman told authorities he had been checking his truck and simply forgot the bed was in the air when he took off, according to Sgt. Chris Stackhouse of the Platte City Police Department.
