Five suspects have now been charged with the robbery of the Trex Mart in Dearborn, which was first reported in last week’s Landmark.
Those charged are Clint Jones, 20, of Kansas City, Kan., Kenneth Haley, 21, of Kansas City, Brandon Goodwin, 19, Consuela Wright, 19, and Trenae Jones, 24, all of Topeka, Kan.
Clint Jones and Goodwin were both charged with class A felonies of robbery in the first degree and felonies for armed criminal action. Haley, Wright, and Trenae Jones were all charged with a class C felony for stealing.
According to court papers, the five suspects arrived at the Trex Mart around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9 in a black Kia Spectra.
Clint Jones and Haley allegedly pumped $40.63 in fuel into the Spectra while Goodwin entered the store and paid for the gas. When the clerk opened the register, Goodwin allegedly pulled a black .40 caliber Taurus handgun and pointed it at the clerk.
The clerk then backed away and Goodwin allegedly removed the cash from the register and ordered the clerk to go to the safe. There was approximately $316 in the register and Goodwin allegedly took another $50 from the safe.
Before leaving, Goodwin allegedly took the clerk’s Blackberry cell phone and the cordless business phone.
The probable cause statement filed with the court says that while the suspects were southbound on Interstate 29 they were spotted by deputies. During the pursuit, Goodwin allegedly handed the money to Wright and Trenae Jones, who allegedly concealed the money in their bras. Goodwin also allegedly threw the cordless phone from the car, along with other papers.
The suspects were followed along I-29 by authorities until they exited at Hwy. 45 traveling west to I-435 South. Deputies radioed ahead to Kansas City, Kansas Police, who stopped the vehicle near Parallel Parkway. The gun and the money were recovered, authorities say.
Brandon Goodwin is being held on $100,000 bond and Clint Jones was held on $75,000 bond. Haley, Wright, and Trenae Jones are each held on $25,000 bond.
