County to update strategic plan

Platte County Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to update the county’s strategic plan. This has not been done since the “Platte Profile 2020” agenda in 2000. The previous plan initiated many new items, including the county park’s department and a roads master plan.

“We’re to the point where we’ve already accomplished the goals we set in the previous plan,” said presiding commissioner Betty Knight.

“And we’re also getting closer to the year 2020. We need a new long-range plan and roadmap for the county. It will be a long process that we hope to have finished within the next year although no official completion date has been set.”

The county will seek formal proposals for the update, which will be read publicly in open session March 8. The county is asking companies to perform certain tasks, such as gathering information and starting committees to tell the county how they can assist in the area resident’s quality of life.

“We will hire a consultant to lead us through this project,” Knight said. “We are inviting people to represent the city and create sub-groups and committees to tell us what areas we need to focus on. This newest update is shaping up to be different than our last one. I look forward to seeing the different proposals people and companies submit to us.”
