County will now allow taxes to be paid online

For the first time Platte County tax- payers will be able to pay their real estate and personal property taxes online.

Platte County Collector Donna Nash announced the payment option during Thursday’s Platte County Commission meeting.

“Our office is excited to take Platte County ‘online’ with this project,” Nash said. “We are confident that the county and our taxpayers will benefit from this new service.”

From Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, the Platte County Collector’s Office is allowing citizens to access tax information via the county’s Web site, www.co.platte.mo.us.

Taxpayers can make payments by authorizing electronic transfers from their checking or savings accounts. Credit cards will not be a payment option online, Nash said. Also, the online service will be available for current taxes only.

“As with all new ventures, there will be some first-time limitations,” Nash said. “But we hope we will be able to offer other payment methods and perhaps extend the time period after Jan. 1, 2004.” Step by step instructions will be listed along with fees which will be paid by the taxpayer. A confirmation will be printed when payment is made and a tax receipt will be issued by the collector’s office the next business day.

Commissioners approved acceptance of a website agreement with UMB Bank for the online service. Commissioners also approved a resolution supporting a project for McCormick Distilling Company Inc. and to declare the official intent of the county to issue its industrial development revenue bonds in a principal amount not to exceed $2.5 million.

Commissioners approved the use of Chapter 100 Bonds for a project on McCormick Distilling’s property in Weston. The project consists of land acquisition, construction and installation of a warehouse facility, including land, buildings and equipment, to be used for storage. The total cost of the project is estimated to be approximately $2.5 million.

The project will be leased to McCormick Distillery for approximately 10 years for lease payments equal to the principal and interest on the bonds. McCormick will have the option to purchase the project prior to termination of the lease and an obligation to purchase the project upon termination of the lease and payment of the bonds.

It is anticipated that GE Capital Public Finances, Inc. will purchase all of the bonds.

It is expected the expansion at McCormick will generate 11 new jobs.

The agreement is the first Chapter 100 venture for the county.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October or the beginning of November. In other business commissioners approved a trail easement for Western Bluffs Trail. The trail is a hiking and biking trail in Weston. Commissioners also approved a petition for annexation of the trail. Requests for proposals to update the county’s web site was also approved. The county anticipates redesigning the website to improve the appearance and movability. Request are due by Sept. 1. Bid requests for Brink Myers Road were made. Bids are due by Aug. 18.
