A 43-year-old Platte City man collapsed during a softball practice in Platte City and was later pronounced dead Monday evening.
According to a report by Platte City police, Bryan Jay Danley was playing ball on a diamond at the Platte County R-3 complex near Siegrist Elementary School when he collapsed. The report says Danley was running to first base when he stopped and sat down near the bag and commented that “I’m not sure I can go any farther.” He stood up, took a couple of steps and fell to the ground, according to the police report.
Witnesses at the scene began administering CPR. An ambulance, first responders from the fire department and police soon arrived. Police say Danley was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived at Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital on Barry Road.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 Monday night.
Danley had coached T-ball, softball and basketball, in addition to playing on a mens softball team.
