It'll soon be 'garage sales galore' in town

Platte City's annual community-wide garage sale event is being sponsored by the Platte City Area Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Council. This year's event will be Saturday, Sept. 7.

All area residents are welcome to participate. Registration forms may be picked up at Leo's Country Mart and Cash Saver, Mid-Continent Public Library or the Chamber/EDC office located at 620 Third Street.

Businesses are also encouraged to participate. The Landmark Newspaper will have its own sidewalk sale/garage sale that morning beginning at 7 a.m. A few trinkets from around the office will be offered for sale, including a limited number of antique wooden printer's galleys—which are basically smaller versions of printer's typecase drawers—some antique cans, an old chair or two, and some old-time wooden cigar boxes.

See next week's paper for a more complete listing of items in The Landmark's sale.

Community-wide garage sale entries must be submitted to the Chamber of Commerce by Sept. 4 to be included on the map. Information shown on the map includes the location of the sale and three items of interest. Limited booth space is available in front of Paxton School on 92 Highway for those wishing to set up within city limits.

Indicate on the registration slip if you are interested in a booth space. The entry free is $3 per address/booth space. Make checks payable to the Platte City Chamber of Commerce/EDC.

Garage sale signs are permitted in yards only. They are prohibited on poles and in right of ways. All signs illegally placed will be removed and penalties applied by the City of Platte City.

Maps, using the map and number system, will be available showing the locations of the garage sales. Maps can be purchased for $1 after 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at Country Mart and Cash Saver.

Advertising will be available as an attachment to the map. Call the chamber office at 858-5270 for details about the community-wide garage sale.
