A Platte County Sheriff's deputy suffered moderate injuries
early Tuesday when his patrol car was struck in the rear
by a drunk driver. The accident happened shortly after
1:30 a.m. at Prairie View Road at 56th St., Kansas City
in Platte County. The deputy, Kevin E. Anderson, 32, of
Platte City, was taken to North Kansas City Hospital.
Anderson's patrol car was stopped at a stop sign when
it was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by Linda
S. Collins, 38, of Parkville. Collins also suffered moderate
injuries, according to a report by the Missouri State
Highway Patrol. Both drivers were taken to North Kansas
City Hospital. Anderson was wearing a seat belt, Collins
was not, according to the report. Sgt. D.J. Hedrick's
report indicated Collins was charged with driving while
intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving.
Shelle Browning, spokesperson for the sheriff's department,
said Anderson was treated and released early Tuesday.
She described him as "very sore" and said he
may be going for further evaluation of his arm "to
see if his elbow may be broken." Sources said Collins
had also been treated and released on Tuesday.
