For the third consecutive season, senior Platte County
Pirate golfer Barrett Martens was able to place at the
golf state competition.
In his sophomore year, Martens finished sixth overall
in the then Class 2A state tournament. The following season,
Martens placed first overall in the Class 3A state championship
tournament.
Although Martens did not repeat as the 3A state champion,
he did have a top 15 finish that would make most high
school golfers from around the state envious.
This seasons state tournament was held at the par
72 Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield. On the first day,
Martens shot an 80, but on the second day of the tournament,
Martens was able to improve his overall standings by shooting
a 77.
Martens eventually concluded the tournament with a highly
respectable eleventh place finish out of all of the Class
3A golfers from throughout the state.
I wanted to win it again after winning it last
year, Martens said. But thats just not
always the way that it works out.
Martens will continue his amateur golfing career for
the next several years to come by playing collegiate golf
for the University of Kansas golf team.
