Crash victim dies in hospital

An 83-year-old Weston man died over the weekend at North Kansas City Hospital as a result of injuries he suffered in a car accident Feb. 19 in Platte City.

As reported in last week's issue of The Landmark, George Hayden, was hospitalized following the accident which occurred at 9:37 a.m. on Feb. 19 at Zed Martin and Second Streets.

The vehicle driven by Hayden was headed west on Zed Martin when police say he failed to obey a stop sign at the T-shaped intersection. The car crossed Second Street, went airborne, and landed in a lot where the car continued until hitting a trash bin at 908 2nd Street.

Three other passengers were also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. 77-year-old, Verna Hayden of Weston, 70-year-old, Roy Dunn of Weston, and 67-year-old, Martha Dunn of Weston. The three passengers were treated and released.

Hayden died on Saturday. His obituary is printed elsewhere in this issue.

Police Chief Bill Massock said it is the first traffic fatality in Platte City in recent memory.
