A convicted sex offender has been charged with loitering on North Platte School District property.
Authorities say Shannon Sue Burgess, 38, of Dearborn was on school property at about 8:20 a.m. on Oct. 3 when she entered the North Platte High School and North Platte Junior High School to enroll her two daughters into school.
“During this same day school was in session and there were hundreds of students under the age of 18 attending classes inside both schools. Prior to entering the school’s property Burgess neglected to contact the school’s superintendent or school board to ask permission to be on school district property,” according to allegations outlined in court documents.
Court records indicate Burgess was found guilty in Buchanan County Circuit Court of second degree statutory sodomy. Due to that conviction she is not allowed to be on public school property without the permission of the school’s superintendent or school board.
Court documents also indicate Burgess has twice been found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender.
