by Ivan Foley
Landmark publisher

James Montee, a well-known attorney in Platte and Buchanan Counties, is charged with driving while intoxicated in Platte County.

Montee, age 58, who lives in Parkville, was arrested by Platte County Sheriff’s Deputy William Beeler at 1:24 a.m. on Sept. 24. The stop was made on Interstate 29 near Old Pike Road in northern Platte County.

In addition to the misdemeanor DWI charge, Montee was ticketed for failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and failure to dim headlights. He posted a $1,000 cash bond on the DWI charge and was released the same day of his arrest.

A court appearance on the DWI charge was set for Wednesday morning as The Landmark was heading to press. The case is in the courtroom of Judge Dennis Eckold.

Montee specializes in personal injury cases. The Montee Law Firm has offices in St. Joseph, Kansas City and Maryville.

His firm has been known to advertise heavily on interstate billboards and in telephone directories.

Montee did not return messages seeking comment on the charge.
