A 34-year-old man died Saturday after the motorcycle he was driving overturned on Interstate 635 near Riverside.
Jackson County Medical Examiner Larry Cridlebaugh pronounced the death of Robert Beecher of Kansas City before midnight Saturday.
The wreck occurred in a construction zone in the southbound lanes of Interstate 635 around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
A driver, who was traveling southbound, approached a closed lane and cut through the construction cones set up to merge traffic into the remaining accessible lanes.
As that driver slowed, Beecher tried to avoid striking the other vehicle by steering his 2007 Kawasaki away from it, but in doing so he overturned and traveled into the center median.
This year there have been 300 traffic fatalities in the state of Missouri. That is a nine percent increase when compared to the same time period last year.
