An elderly man en route to a Platte City bank with several guns in his possession was stopped and questioned by authorities Tuesday morning.
Lt Al DeValkenaere with the Platte City Police Department said police received a tip from a concerned family member who revealed that guns that are normally never taken from the home were removed from the Weston residence.
According to authorities, the elderly man appeared to be slightly confused, prompting law enforcement officers to contain the motorist until he could be properly evaluated. Inside the vehicle, law enforcement officers recovered a locked box containing the guns.
The elderly man was later picked by his adult son and taken back to his home. Police said that according to the man’s family, he is in the early stages of Alzheimer's.
Law enforcement officials say the recovered guns will remain in storage at the Platte City Police Department.
