A 37-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder for the alleged strangulation of Denise Streeter, whose body was recently discovered in Platte Purchase Park in Platte County.
The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office charged Gustavo M. Ortiz on Friday, Dec. 7 with second degree murder for the alleged killing of 49-year-old Streeter of Kansas City, Kan.
Authorities allege the killing took place in Jackson County.
According to court documents, Ortiz and a female witness picked up Streeter at a casino located in Kansas City, Kan. with the intent to purchase drugs from Streeter.
They drove to a residence in the 3000 block of Brooklyn Avenue in Kansas City where they used narcotics. Ortiz became upset and violent, claiming Streeter was responsible for a sex crime that he had suffered by an unidentified party.
Allegedly, Ortiz punched Streeter in the face, sending her to the floor. He then allegedly strangled her neck with his hands.
According to a witness, Ortiz said “this bitch is still breathing” before he obtained an electrical cord to further strangle Streeter until she stopped breathing.
After loading the victim's listless body into a truck, Ortiz and the witness then headed north to dispose of her body.
Streeter's body was later discovered about 300 yards south of a playground located near 2800 NW 100th Street by a walker in the park.
A witness alleges that Ortiz instructed her to dispose of the victim's purse near 112th and North Main Street in Kansas City. Ortiz also allegedly dumped the truck they used to dispose of the body, along with the victim’s attire, near the 3000 block of Brooklyn Avenue in Kansas City.
The witness told authorities that Ortiz threatened to kill her if she told police.
A chemical test conducted at the residence where the alleged killing took place in Jackson County revealed to authorities a presence of blood.
Ortiz is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond. He denies having anything to do with the death of Streeter and claims to have dropped her off at Checkers the night of her disappearance.
