Charged with raping a
woman in vehicle

by Alan McArthur
Landmark reporter

Two men are in jail after being charged with raping a Platte City woman.

Joshua D. Greathouse, 23, of Platte City, and Zachary R. Greathouse, 22, of Kansas City, are both charged with felony sexual assault and are both being held on a $15,000 cash-only bond.

According to a probable cause statement, the incident began when the victim, a 27-year-old Platte City woman, and two suspects were at a bar along 45 Highway in Weston on Friday, July 17.

Between 1:30 a.m. and 2:40 a.m. on Saturday morning, the three left the bar and began driving back to Platte City. The woman says she was intoxicated and passed out in the passenger seat of the Nissan four-door vehicle.

According to the woman's statement, she awoke with her car seat reclined and Joshua on top of her. Joshua had allegedly pulled up her dress and was attempting to have sexual intercourse with the woman.

The woman said she was “too intoxicated to move.” She said Zachary was in the driver's seat of the vehicle. According to the statement, Joshua was unsuccessful in penetrating the victim.

The victim says Zachary then got on top of her and the victim said she shook her head back and forth and said “no.”

The woman said that when Zachary began to allegedly sexually assault her, she “came to” and realized what was happening. She said she tried to reach her cell phone, but could not. She said that when she started to move her arms and legs, then Zachary stopped and she said she needed to go home.

She reported they told her she was home and needed to get out of the car.

The woman then reached her boyfriend on her cell phone and began knocking on her front door. Her babysitter let her in and they called the police.

By July 18, at 11 a.m. Joshua was arrested and taken to the Platte County Detention Center. Joshua declined to make a statement to the police.

Around 9 p.m. on July 18, Zachary was arrested. He allegedly admitted to police about “having sex with the victim without her consent while she was unconscious,” according to authorities. Zachary allegedly said he saw Joshua have sex with the victim twice without her consent and while she was unconscious.

Both suspects appeared before Judge James Van Amburg on Sunday, July 19. Bail for both was set at $15,000 cash-only with the condition neither would have contact with the victim.

According to court records, the victim filed protective orders against both of the suspects on Saturday.

Joshua and Zachary were both still in the Platte County Detention Center on Tuesday evening.
Both suspects face up to seven years in prison for the felonies.

Joshua is a 2005 graduate of West Platte High School. Zachary graduated from Winnetonka High School in 2005.

According to Joshua's Facebook page, he is a screener for First Line Security at Kansas City International Airport.
