Chamber contract
revisions proposed

On Tuesday, the City of Platte City received a revised agreement for development services from the Platte City Chamber and Economic Development Council.

The document will be reviewed by the city attorney and returned with any proposed changes. When it is agreed by all parties that the document meets applicable law, it will be presented to the Platte City Board of Aldermen for consideration.

The new document will serve to replace the current agreement, which had been renewed annually for several years. The new document generally removes language specific to traditional chamber activities and puts greater focus on the economic development efforts of the group.

There is no word yet as to what the proposed level of city funding, if any, is for the chamber within the newly-proposed contract. In the past the city has given $10,000 annually to the chamber, but that amount has come under scrutiny in recent months and a special committee was recently appointed to study the matter and make a recommendation.

Platte City Mayor Frank Offutt indicated that the agreement could be acted upon by the board of aldermen as early as July 28.
