A routine bridge inspection today has prompted MoDOT to
immediately close the Route E Bridge over Jowler Creek near Camden Point until further notice.
Deterioration has caused damage to the under side of the bridge, prompting the closure. MoDOT
will need to investigate further to see if repairs can be made.
The bridge was built in 1933 and carries 1986 vehicles daily. It was reduced to one lane
of traffic a few years ago due to structural concerns. This bridge has already been included in MoDOT’s Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will replace 802 of MoDOT’s
worst bridges by October 31, 2014.
During this closure, traffic needing to reach the east side of the bridge may detour by
taking I-29 north to Route Z, and continuing east on Route Z, turning south on Route EE to reach
Route E. Traffic heading west should take Route EE north to Route Z and continue west until
reaching I-29.
