Christmas
on the River postponed;
now set for Dec. 8 at Parkville
|
The snow and ice that hit portions of
the KC Metro area frightened organizers of the Parkville
Christmas on the River celebration into postponing the
event by one week. Originally set for Friday, Dec. 1,
the extravaganza now will take place on Friday, Dec. 8.
The annual celebration is set to run from
6-10 p.m. in historic downtown Parkville.
The event will be hosted by Bill Grigsby
with Santa Claus serving as a special guest. At 7 p.m.
a 1,000 voice choir will perform. Fireworks begin at 8
p.m.
There will be a free shuttle service from
Park Hill South and Park University.
Parents and kids get out of the
cold! After the singing and the other activities are over
at Christmas on the River this Friday night walk over
to The Olde Mill in English Landing Center. There will
be free snacks and free activities for kids, including
free dancing lessons by Heidis Dance Center.
This activity is possible because of these
generous people:
The Olde Mill. The Doughty family is providing
the hall at no cost. Platte Valley Bank, picking up the
bill for the snacks, and offering face-painting. Parkville
Nature Sanctuary, with another nature presentation, maybe
something like last year's Guess My Bones.
The SPCAA with a basketball goal. The Parkville Chamber
of Commerce with a game. The Parkville Presbyterian Church
(last year they put together relief packages for Hurricane
Katrina victims). Gymboree with some of the activities
theyre known for in their English Landing Center
facility. Living Water Christian Church with some fun
kid stuff. The Southern Platte County Community Center
with Funky Fotos again. And possibly a booth from H.M.S.
Beagle. Heidis Dance Center, which will have activities
that are fun for the kids to do, fun for the parents to
watch.
The cash bar at The Olde Mill will be
open, and hot chocolate will be available along with other
beverages.
