The case against a local man accused of assaulting a
Platte City police officer back in July in the 900 block
of Platte Falls Road near the Platte City Middle School
turned over to the Platte County Prosecutors Office.
According to Platte City Police Chief Joe McHale, his
department handed over their investigation to Eric Zahnds
office on Sept. 13.
Zahnd confirmed that his office does have the case.
We have the case and we are reviewing it,
said Zahnd. We have asked for some additional investigation
because there were a couple of questions we had that we
felt needed additional investigation and Platte City is
completing that for us right now.
They have asked us to do a little more investigative
work this week so thats what were doing,
stated McHale. Witnesses are being reinterviewed
by the prosecutor and were hoping to have something
(a decision by the prosecutor as far as what charges will
be filed) by the first of next week.
Zahnd said he couldnt specify exactly when charges
might be filed or what charges are being considered against
the suspect.
After weeks of investigation by the Platte City Police
Department, McHale is pleased with the case they have
put together.
I think we have a very solid case, he stated.
McHale said the officer is undergoing physical therapy
and is being evaluated for possible surgery.
